Donors get ice cream:Blood donors who support Heartland Blood Centers in July will be given a coupon for a free quart of Oberweis Ice Cream. It's part of a Pint-for-a-Quart campaign which rewards blood donors who take time out of their schedules to donate blood at any Heartland location or mobile blood drive. For the few communities not located near an Oberweis Retail Store, Ben Jerry's ice-cream certificates will be substituted. Heartland Blood Centers is an independent nonprofit blood center serving 35 hospitals in a 12-county region in Illinois and Indiana. Call (800) 7-TO GIVE or visitheartlandbc.org.Aurora trail rerouted:A section of the Fox River Trail East near downtown Aurora will be rerouted during the next several months as crews complete demolition of the Hollywood Casino riverboat. The rerouted area is directly across from the entrance to the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway. Near that point, the trail will travel around the construction site on gravel paths linking to a short stretch on Broadway. The section will remain rerouted until mid-October. Trail users may bypass the area by using the Fox River Trail West, which runs north-south from Illinois Avenue to East New York Street in downtown Aurora.Bickford hosts veterans' BBQ:The second annual Veterans Benefit Barbeque will be held from noon to 2 p.m. July 10 at Bickford of St. Charles, 2875 Campton Hills Road. The V-B-QUE is created to celebrate Independence Day, honor veterans and their spouses and to educate them on financial health care benefits that are available to them. It seeks sports memorabilia and uniforms before 1970; women's sports memorabilia before 1975; memorabilia or uniforms pertaining to the 1927 Geneva High School football team; 1920s and 1930s Geneva High School track and field teams; the 1940s Geneva High School football teams; 1930s and 1940s Geneva High School wrestling teams; the 1963 Geneva High School basketball team; the 1968 Geneva High School football team; and memorabilia pertaining to women's high school basketball from 1900-1912 and the Geneva High School Girls' Athletic Association.
