Fire closes Grandma Sally's restaurant in Glen Ellyn

An early Monday fire at a Glen Ellyn restaurant has left the building significantly damaged and closed indefinitely, according to the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department.

The department responded to at 1:40 a.m. report of heavy smoke coming from Grandma Sally's Waffle and Pancake House, 369 Roosevelt Road, and found the rear of the building up in flames.

"There was some very significant damage to the back kitchen area," said Craig Eldridge of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department. "From the street, it just looks all boarded up, but from the back there is serious damage."

The restaurant was closed when the fire started and nobody was in the building, Eldridge said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Glen Ellyn Police Department, DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Glen Ellyn Fire Department, Eldridge said.

Fire crews remained on the scene until approximately 6 a.m.

"They will be closed for a number of days, probably much longer," he said.

No one was injured during the fire.
