Centro de Informacion helps families celebrate Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was a brighter holiday this year for some area families thanks to Centro de Información, a nonprofit social service agency based in Elgin. On Tuesday, Nov. 23, two days before the holiday, Centro provided food baskets to 130 of its predominantly low-income families at its Elgin location. The food, obtained through outside donations, included a 15-pound turkey for each household.

Opened in 1972, Centro de Información has been empowering the predominantly Hispanic immigrant community of Kane County with the ability to effectively integrate into the greater community through facilitation of information, education and citizenship. Last year it provided services for more than 16,000 people. Centro also has branches in Carpentersville and Hanover Park.

Centro will be doing it again for the Christmas holiday on Dec. 20. If you would like to help by donating or for more information about Centro de Información, call (847) 695-9050 or visit centrodeinformacion.org
