Radio and TV this week

Zoo Year's Eve

Radio Disney WRDZ 1300-AM plays host to a New Year's Eve celebration aimed, of course, at kids from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brookfield Zoo, 8400 31st St., Brookfield. In addition to show hosts and other Disney marketing tools, there will be an early evening ball drop to let children celebrate the new year and still get them home for bedtime.

Hey now!

The Independent Film Channel debuts reruns of the hit HBO series “The Larry Sanders Show” and “Mr. Show With Bob and David” with New Year's Day marathons starting at 11 p.m. today. First comes six hours of “Mr. Show,” which pretty much launched the careers of David Cross and Naperville's Bob Odenkirk. Then, starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, comes a full 24 hours of “Larry Sanders,” Garry Shandling's “Tonight Show” lampoon. “Larry Sanders” will start running regularly at 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, and “Mr. Show” at 10 p.m. Jan. 7. In between, “The Ben Stiller Show,” the Fox variety show, begins its IFC run at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Harder than the best

David Kaplan, the hardest-working man in Chicago sports, has taken on a new weekday talk show from 7 to 10 p.m. on WGN 720-AM. Kaplan will be bolstered by co-hosts and news anchor Andrea Darlas. Kaplan just signed an extension at Comcast SportsNet Chicago to remain host of its round-table interview show and take on the role of Cubs studio host.

> Hail Freedonia!

Remember when local TV channels used to ring in the new year with Marx Brothers marathons? Turner Classic Movies does, and runs a marathon from their best decade starting with “Animal Crackers” at 7 p.m. today and ending with “Go West” at 4:30 a.m. Saturday. In between are the classic high points “Horse Feathers” at 10:15 p.m., followed by “Duck Soup” at 11:30.

Groucho meets Harpo — or is that vice versa? — in the Marx Brothers’ “Duck Soup.”
