Sente Sworn In for First Full Term with House

Vernon Hills, IL – Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) was sworn in for her first full term as State Representative on Wednesday with the full House of Representatives at the University of Illinois, Springfield. While the state faced tremendous challenges, Sente was elected to a full term last November on a platform pledging fiscal responsibility, ethics reforms and job creation.

“In these difficult economic times, we must focus on creating jobs to help put people back to work and rebuild our local economy, and I will work to make Illinois a more business friendly state,” Sente said. “As a small business owner, I know what needs to be done to meet a payroll and pay the bills on time, and in my first full term I will continue pushing for budget reforms to bring fiscal responsibility and sanity back to our state. It is critical that our state's fiscal house is in order.”

As a freshman legislator, Sente worked with a bicameral group of legislators to propose necessary budget cuts and she initiated legislation to reform the state's budget process by establishing performance based budgeting principals that successful businesses have embraced for decades. In her first full term, Sente plans to continue to pursue serious budget reforms to help the state's economy recover, bring jobs back to Illinois and root out corruption to ensure state government is more transparent and accountable to taxpayers. Topping her legislative agenda are proposals to mandate jail time for serious government ethics violations, strip pensions from corrupt public officials, and revoke tax incentives from businesses that move jobs out of Illinois.

“Illinois's history of corruption and debt is negatively impacting businesses' decisions to relocate here, and is slowing job creation. We have to end this culture of corruption and need an open government that is accountable to our citizens,” Sente said. “The privilege to serve the constituents of the 59th district is truly an honor, and I will continue to be an open and accessible legislator, and seek input to improve our state and economy.”

Sente represents the 59th District, which includes portions of 22 communities in Central Lake and Northern Cook Counties, including Buffalo Grove, Great Lakes, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Indian Creek, Knollwood, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mettawa, Mundelein, North Chicago, Northbrook, Park City, Prairie View, Riverwoods, Unincorporated Deerfield, Vernon Hills, Waukegan and Wheeling.
