• Fox Valley Rep Performing Arts Academy (formerly Noble Fool Theatricals Performing Arts Academy) seeks young actors between the ages of 6 and 19 to audition for its winter productions. • Woodstock Musical Theatre Company has auditions for the classic Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls” from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 24-25, in the Green Room of the Woodstock Opera House at 121 Van Buren St., Woodstock. • The Lyric Opera of Chicago has chorus auditions for classically trained singers for the 2011-12 season. Preliminary auditions are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 22 and 29; 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9; 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11; 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15; and 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4. Out-of-town singers can audition from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Auditions are by invitation only. • The Prairie Center for the Arts in Schaumburg is seeking student films running 10 minutes or less for its fifth annual Screen Test Student Fest short film competition, which runs Friday and Saturday, April 15-16. • The Rockford Writers' Guild welcomes entries for the seventh annual Ides of March Poetry & Prose Contest. Eclectic poetry up to 50 lines or prose up to 1,300 words should express fresh insights into the human condition (sexist, pornographic or supremacist content will not be considered). The deadline to enter is March 15. The entry fee is $5 for up to three poems entered and/or $5 for each single prose entry. All proceeds from the entry fee will be distributed among the winners. • The Curt Teich Postcard Archives at the Lake County Discovery Museum seeks entries for its ninth biennial Postcard Art Competition and Exhibition. The juried competition examines the postcard as an art form and challenges artists ages 18 and older to create original works of art in a 4-by-6-inch size. Submission deadline is July 11.
