‘Annie’ coming to Schaumburg this weekend

Hannah Lullo, of Roselle, and Madison Olszewski, of South Barrington, share the title role of in the Broadway musical “Annie,” beginning Friday, Jan. 21, in Schaumburg.

Nathan Spees, of Streamwood, stars as the big-hearted Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks. Geanna Fank of Elk Grove Village and Ally Knowles, of Romeoville, share the role of the orphan-hating Miss Hannigan with Justine Venegoni of Hoffman Estates and Natalie Ragusin, of Medinah, co-starring in the role of Grace Farrell, Oliver Warbuck’s secretary and eventual love interest.

Rounding out the cast of lead characters are Timothy Ackerlund, of Schaumburg, and Ralph Pulice, of Wood Dale, as Miss Hannigan’s shiftless brother, Rooster; Lea Cartina of Wood Dale and Devon Snooks, of Itasca, as Rooster’s ditsy blonde girlfriend, Lily St. Regis, and Dan Ortiz, of Schaumburg, as Warbuck’s faithful butler, Drake.

The production features more than 100 actors, singers and dancers.

Put on by Schaumburg On Stage, a Northwest suburban theater company for young actors now in its 15th year, “Annie” is led by directors/producers Carol Lynch and Kerrie Noah and musical directors Rosemarie Aiello and John Hacker.

The cast, ranging in age from 6 to 21 years of age, has been rehearsing since October.

Both of the leads from the 2002 production of “Annie” are returning as guest artists. Colleen Lynch and Amy Rapp, both of Schaumburg, will alternate guest appearances as “The Star to Be.”

They are now 21-year-old college seniors studying the performing arts who have enjoyed success on the professional stage.

Lynch, a senior at Millikin University, performed for several years in the American Girl Revue in Chicago among other productions. Rapp, a senior at DePaul University, also appeared in the American Girl Revue and was cast last year as the Ghost of Christmas Past in the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights production of A Christmas Carol.
