Sherman Health to celebrate American Heart Month

In honor of American Heart Month, Sherman Health will host its annual Heart and Diabetes Fair and offer specials on healthy heart screenings during February.

The Sherman Heart and Diabetes Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5 at Sherman Hospital, 1425 N. Randall Road.

Heart health and diabetes information will be provided by representatives from the American Heart Association and a variety of Sherman Health departments, including Cardiac Rehabilitation, Radiology, Education and Community Wellness, Heart Failure Recovery Center, Cardiac Cath Lab, Non-Invasive Cardiology and the Diabetes Center. The fair will also feature:

- Free blood pressure screenings.

- Free cholesterol screenings for the first 100 attendees ($10 after). Fasting required.

- Free gift for attendees who wear red.

- Opportunity to meet Dr. Maciej Malinski, cardiologist and author of the Sherman Health Heart Blog.

- A presentation about the link between the heart and diabetes.

- Raffle drawing for a free Healthy Heart CT Scan. This simple, painless test can detect calcium deposits in the heart, an early sign of heart disease.

In addition to the fair, Sherman Health will offer $79 Healthy Heart CT scans during February. Those who make an appointment for a scan during Heart Month will receive a box of Frango dark chocolates, while supplies last.

Sherman will also provide Healthy Heart Mobile Screenings from 8 to 11 a.m. on the following dates at four convenient locations:

Thursday, Feb 3: Sherman Immediate Care-South Elgin, 2000 McDonald Road.

Friday, Feb 11: Sherman Bartlett Group Practice, 864 Stearns Road, Suite 103.

Tuesday, Feb. 15: Sherman Immediate Care-Algonquin, 600 S. Randall Road.

Friday, Feb. 25: Sherman Immediate Care-Center Street, 934 Center St. in Elgin.

Nine screenings are available through the Healthy Heart Mobile, from blood glucose screenings to peripheral vascular and osteoporosis screenings. Screenings are offered for $139 for all, or $40 each. To schedule an appointment, call (224) 783-6500.
