Teen mistaken for purse snatcher run over in Conn.

WATERBURY, Conn. — Police in Connecticut say a man ran over a teen boy after he mistook him for someone who snatched his girlfriend's purse.

But the 17-year-old Waterbury boy, who broke his leg in the ordeal, wasn't the thief, and the boyfriend was arrested for assault.

Police say it started when a 23-year-old woman was walking to Danny Torres's home on Thursday when someone snatched her purse.

Torres and the woman got in a car to look for the thief.

Capt. Christopher Corbett tells The Republican-American that the couple saw the teen, thought he was the purse snatcher and struck him with the car. Torres, wielding a baseball bat, then allegedly threatened to kill the boy and held him until police arrived.

Police determined the youth had nothing to do with the theft, and proceeded to arrest Torres.
