I#146;ll work to assist as called upon, to manage the tasks and issues affecting our village and its residents.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain. Our local sales tax situation is a unique one in that we have a few large corporations relating to this issue rather than the typical retail base. The current tax structure has been negotiated in an effort to be fair to all parties involved, I believe it is meeting that goal.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.Public safety is a real issue in our village. Our police protection is provided by the Lake County Sheriff. We have taken some steps to rapidly disseminate information to residents regarding potential risk. This is a good program that needs our continued attention. Consideration needs to be given to increasing patrols and utilization of such. Regarding fire protection, our level of risk is higher than desirable due to proximity to emergency personnel and equipment and the lack of water in most of our village. Expansion of water service is being considered with the village, this would assist with firefighting efforts in addition to the availability of drinking water. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?Of course this is an area of continued focus and discussion. I have opinions as to financial allocations but don#146;t believe it is appropriate to discuss in this venue.What#146;s one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?Communication and community involvement. We can do a better job of informing the residents regarding the issues that arise and direction the board and village commissions are moving. Everyone is busy these days, an efficient method of communication, informing the residents and soliciting their input will assist us in moving our village forward.
