Health briefs: Crisis counseling in Lake Co.

Ÿ The Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center offers walk-in and telephone crisis counseling and referrals for Lake County residents experiencing emotional stress. This is a service of the Crisis Care Program at 3002 Grand Ave., Waukegan.

Counselors are available 24 hours a day. For assistance, call (847) 377-8088.

Ÿ The Centegra Health System will sponsor special events and screenings for National Heart Month.

The annual Health Strong Woman Event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at 10987 E. Main St., Huntley.

A physicians panel will discuss menopause, breast and heart health. Author Joan Steffend will talk about her new book, “and she sparkled.”

There also will be free bone health, blood pressure and diabetes screenings as well as HeartAware and DiabetesAware online assessments, along with raffles and giveaways. The event costs $10.

Vascular screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center, 10450 Algonquin Road, Huntley. The cost is $129. To register, visit Centegra.org or call (877) 236-8347.
