Glencoe water judged best in state

The village of Glencoe will represent Illinois next month in a national tap water taste test.

Last month, the suburb beat out Charleston and Romeoville in a statewide competition held in March to determine the state's best tasting water. Judges recruited by the American Water Works Association assessed entrants on clarity, which was determined by holding a glass against a white sheet of paper, as well as odor and taste.

However, one those judges, Republican state Sen. Larry Bomke of Springfield, says the only distinguishing characteristic he could recall was that one glass seemed to be slightly cooler than the others.

Glencoe water plant superintendent Tom Weathers says he isn't sure of what put his town over the top.
