Neighborhood profile: Georgian Place in Huntley

At Huntley’s Georgian Place, it’s all about kids — lots of kids.

That’s what attracted Kim and Adam Miller to the subdivision of single-family homes almost eight years ago.

The couple loves having kids in the neighborhood for their children to play with. “That’s huge,” Kim Miller said. “I grew up in a neighborhood like that, and that’s important to me. And with the nice weather, the kids love being outside.”

For people looking for a community with plenty of children and activities, Georgian Place is the place to be, said Anna Coleman, broker with Century 21 New Heritage-Hampshire and also a resident of the neighborhood.

“We have five children, so we wanted a neighborhood where I wouldn’t have to drive the children far to play with their friends — and I definitely got it. Sometimes there are 25 kids at the bus stop.”

Kim and Adam had rented a place in Wheaton, which they liked, but when it came time to buy their first home, they knew they would get more house for their money in Huntley. “I love our house,” Miller said. “We like the community itself, and we have unbelievable neighbors.”

Besides that, both Kim and Adam’s families are in or near Huntley, so they were familiar with the area and how it was developing. “This was a prime location as far as distance from our families,” Kim Miller said.

“And I need to be within 15 minutes of Target. It’s so convenient to just run in for food or diapers without having to go to a mall,” she said.

Other shopping includes Prime Outlets-Huntley that attracts shoppers from miles around, some strip shopping centers and downtown shops.

Georgian Place sits due east of the old town of Huntley south of Algonquin Road, east of Ruth Road, west of Haligus Road and north of East Main Street.

The subdivision features two-story homes, most with a three-car garage, and well-tended lawns. The association does a great job of managing all the landscaping. And the subdivision is completely built out, so there are no vacant lots, Coleman said.

“Our house has a great open floor plan with a very comfortable kitchen and two-story family room. And we have a walkout basement, which I love,” she said. Huntley offers an excellent school district where students are bussed to three different campuses. And the subdivision abuts the Huntley Area Public Library and municipal center.

Residents of Georgian Place enjoy being close to Huntley’s charming downtown with its public square, gazebo and brick paved Woodstock Street. They are close to stores, banks, and churches, and the park district is five minutes away, Coleman said.

The convenient location right off the expressway along the golden I-90 corridor is another big selling point for the subdivision.

Neighborhood children can become involved in many park district activities, classes and a variety of sports. The sports-oriented town has a lot of ball fields and sports leagues for children and adults. The Millers’ children enjoy many park district activities, Kim said. “They went to preschool, dance, cheerleading and one is in soccer.”

The jewel of the park district is Deicke Park, the village’s largest park and home to many community events. It offers multiple ball fields, picnic shelters, a playground and basketball and tennis courts.

Other park district facilities include the recreation center, Stingray Bay Family Aquatic Center and Pinecrest Golf Course. The nearby Cosman Cultural Theater is a state-of-the-art facility with seating for 288 people.
