Boy Scouts to recognize volunteers for distinguished service

The Three Fires Council is proud to honor the recipients of the 2010 Silver Beaver Awards. The Boy Scouts of America through the National Court of Honor confers the Silver Beaver Award to adult volunteers for distinguished service to youth upon nomination by the chartered local council. The Silver Beaver is the highest award a local council can present to an adult volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.

The Silver Beaver Award Dinner will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 16. It will be followed by the council's annual board meeting at the Wyndham in Lisle. Individual tickets are $39 and online registration is available at www.threefirescouncil.org.

In 2010, the council recorded 7,325 registered adult volunteers. The following nine individuals were selected to receive the Silver Beaver Award: Jack Koberstine of Naperville, Raymond Loback of Aurora, Anna Tuohy of North Aurora, Michael Thomas of Elgin, Jeffrey Mengler and David Daly, both of St. Charles, Timothy Tyler of Plano, and George Webber and Michael Lewandowski, both of Oswego.

“We are thankful for all the volunteers that have continued to help deliver the Scouting program for over a century,” stated Matt Ackerman, Scout Executive for the Three Fires Council. “It is a pleasure to present our highest award to this group who has dedicated so many hours to help young people learn and grow.”
