Cars dominate First Street

First Street in downtown St. Charles will be all about transportation during the three days of Riverfest.

There will be the Big Vehicle day on Friday that will feature St. Charles Fire Department trucks, the Colonial Cafe ice cream truck, local residents’ cars and a Kane County SWAT vehicle.

The first trophy car show will take place on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. with awards presented at 4 p.m. It is a competition for all types of cars with 130 entrants expected.

Jim Koenig of Channahon will participate in the first car show after hearing about it from Double K Productions, which is in charge of the event. Koenig has been participating in car shows for the past eight years.

“It’s nice to meet people and see the reactions sometime that haven’t seen these type of cars before,” Koeing said. “Especially seeing the older cars.”

He will compete in the show with his 1957 Pontiac Chieftain and his 2004 Chevy SSR, which were only made for three years.

Koenig is excited to participate in Riverfest, especially with the venue the car show will have on 1st Street.

“ ... A lot of time you’re kind of stuck at parking lots or car dealers but I like going to (car shows) when there’s a festival or something,” Koenig said. “Being near the river I thought it would be nice to go.”

This venue will also feature radio-controlled hobby car racing with tracks all along First Street on Sunday.
