Girls soccer/Fox Valley All-Area team

Jori Anderson Hampshire

Anderson, a junior midfielder, was a unanimous all-Big Northern Conference East Division selection in 2011. “Jori is the heart and soul of our team,” said Hampshire coach Pat O’Brien. “She plays with such joy and elevates all of her teammates. Jori was our most versatile player, playing wherever she was needed.”

Ashley Barnes Elgin Academy

Barnes, a junior center midfielder, ended the season with 19 goals and 7 assists en route to a unanimous all-Independent School League first-team selection. The team captain was also named the Hilltoppers’ most valuable player. “Ashley is clearly a fine technical player,” said Elgin Academy coach Peter Glon. “Elgin Academy struggled this year versus superior opponents, (but) Ashley Barnes was perceived to be one of the best players on the field.”

Stephanie Brown Streamwood

This junior defender was named the Streamwood team MVP and earned all-Upstate Eight Conference River Division accolades. Brown finished the year with 4 goals and 5 assists. She also was named to the all-tournament team at the Kaneland Klassic. “Stephanie is a versatile player that can help us on the field at any soccer position,” said Streamwood coach Chelsea Lloyd. “She does her best in our defensive half at either a marking back or stopper.”

Bre Burry Huntley

Burry, a senior midfielder, was an all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division selection and also earned all-tournament honors at the prestigious Pepsi Showdown event. Burry, who is headed to Viterbo University (LaCrosse, Wis.) had 5 goals and 14 assists in 2011. “Bre is a hard-nosed competitor that outworks her opponent in every game,” said Huntley coach Kris Grabner. “She plays much bigger than she really is. She is very strong on the ball and is a highly technical player. Bre has very good field vision and a strong understanding of the game. She was the heart and soul of our team.”

Camille DelaCruz Burlington Central

Just a sophomore, DelaCruz starred from her midfield position for the Rockets. She finished the year with 8 goals and 13 assists and earned all-Big Northern Conference East Division honors, as well as IHSSCA all-sectional plaudits. DelaCruz was a Kaneland all-tournament selection as well. “Camille is the playmaker for our team,” said Central coach Mike Gecan. “Camille led our team again this year in assists and she always seems to be involved in the run of play when goals are scored for us.”

Trisha Donlon Bartlett

A senior center midfielder, Donlon was an all-Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division choice and also earned all-sectional and team MVP honors. She ended the season with 2 goals and 3 assists. “Trisha was our most consistent player all season,” said Bartlett coach Heather Thomas. “She dominated the middle of the field. Although her stats are not as notable as many, she was our big playmaker.”

Mallory Fryer Dundee-Crown

A senior defender, Fryer scored 1 goal and had 1 assist en route to an all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division selection. D-C’s team MVP also was an all-sectional honorable mention choice. “Mallory has an incredible work ethic and has continued to improve every year,” said D-C coach Sebastian Falinski. “She is definitely one of the Top 3 defenders in the Fox Valley Conference and has had the responsibility of organizing our flat back four while shutting down our opponents’ best players.”

Paige Gannon St. Edward

Gannon, a junior goalkeeper, played a major role in St. Edward placing fourth in the state in Class 1A this season. An all-Suburban Christian Conference selection, Gannon recorded 6 shutouts and posted a 1.76 goals-against average. She now has 12 shutouts in 48 career games in goal. During the regional and sectional portion of the state tournament, Gannon allowed 2 goals (1 via a penalty kick). “Paige is one of the toughest goalies in the area, proven by the fact she suffered a major shoulder/neck injury with 19 seconds left in the state semifinal, yet returned to finish the game and played in the consolation championship,” said St. Edward coach Tim Brieger. “She is exceptional in one-on-one breakaway situations and is the heart of our defense. Paige is a big, strong and powerful goalie. She’s a team leader both on and off the field.” Also acted as the Green Wave’s fifth shooter during shootouts.

Korey Kronforst Cary-Grove

A junior forward, Kronforst earned all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division and all-sectional accolades. Kronforst had 18 goals and 3 assists this season en route to leading the team in scoring for the third time. “She’s a threat to opponents in every game,” said Cary-Grove coach Ray Krystal. “Korey has had several multiple-goal games this season. Once again she was our leading scorer despite missing 6 gams because of injury.”

Kali Loescher Crystal Lake South

A two-time, all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division pick, Loescher had 21 goals and 15 assists heading into the sectional semifinals. A senior forward, Loescher also was an all-sectional selection. “Kali is one of the hardest-working forwards I have seen this season on both sides of the ball,” said South coach Brian Allen. “It is rare to see a two-way player of her caliber up top these days. And then to add the gaudy stats she has accumulated this year, while dealing with numerous double teams is all-the-more impressive. She has become an impact player for us this year when we have needed one the most.” Loescher is headed to Upper Iowa University next season.

Mallory Malone St. Edward

A senior forward, Malone was a 4-year varsity starter for the Green Wave. She played on the 2008 team that reached the final eight and this year’s Class 1A fourth-place state finisher. An all-Suburban Christian Conference pick, Malone scored 9 goals and had 5 assists and leaves St. Edward ranked 11th on the all-time school goal-scoring list with 20. “Mallory is one of our tri-captains and is the overall leader of the team,” said St. Edward coach Tim Brieger. “She overcame numerous injuries in her career, which showed her toughness and determination to win. Mallory has an outstanding touch up top and is able to beat girls in one-on-one situations and distribute the ball. She did everything we asked of her and more.” Malone suffered a serious ankle injury in the sectional title match, but still finished that game and played in the two state finals games. Mallory had the team first and foremost in her play and thoughts, sacrificing stats to help the team.”

Elizabeth Quinn Crystal Lake South

A senior goalkeeper, Quinn sported an 0.88 goals-against average (23 goals allowed in 26 matches) and posted 12 shutouts (stats prior to sectional semifinals). An all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division pick and an all-sectional honorable mention selection, Quinn boasted career numbers of 0.99 (GAA) and 19 shutouts. “Quinny helped to solidify a defense that saw all four starters graduate a year ago,” said South coach Brian Allen. “As a senior captain this year, her vocal leadership and organization of the back, combined with her technical talents and tactical awareness of the goalkeeper position bolstered us to a second-consecutive second-place finish in the FVC Valley. Quinn helped South reach the sectional round for the first time in seven years.

Monica Ramirez St. Edward

A freshman center midfielder, Ramirez stepped right in and was a major contributor for a Green Wave team that finished fourth in Class 1A. Ramirez, who started all 26 games at the center-mid position, had 9 goals and 6 assists this season. “While one of the smallest players on the field every game, Monica also is one of the best players,” said St. Edward coach Tim Brieger. “She raised her game to a new level in the state tournament. She was in on both goals in the sectional-championship game against Rockford Lutheran. Monica has an amazing touch and field vision. She is able to beat just about anyone she wants to off the dribble. When Monica is on, our offense is at its finest. She is the link between our defense and our attack.”

Margaret Rivera Jacobs

A sophomore defender, Rivera had 2 goals and 8 assists and earned all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division accolades. She also was an all-sectional honorable-mention selection. “Margaret is the rock in our back line,” said Jacobs coach AJ Cappello. “She tackles as well as any girl out there. She seldom gets beat and always organizes the players in front of her. On the offensive side of the ball, she is deadly on free kicks, both serving and shooting.”

Cassidy Sherman Jacobs

Sherman tallied 14 goals and 10 assists for Jacobs this season. The junior midfielder earned all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division honors and was an all-sectional selection. “Cassidy has been our leading goal-scorer this season, but more importantly she is the pacesetter for our team,” said Jacobs coach AJ Cappello. “She wins nearly every head ball that comes near her and dictates the pace of the game.”

Jamie Simon Cary-Grove

This sophomore defender made her presence felt this season, earning all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division honors, as well as all-sectional honors. She finished the year with 1 goal and 2 assists. “Jamie is our strongest defenders and also is one of our best midfielders,” said Cary-Grove coach Ray Krystal. “She is a dynamic presence in every game. If a particular opponent is a threat, Jamie is moved to neutralize that threat. Her defensive ability can only be called game-changing. Her matchup with Aimee Wronski (Huntley standout) was inspiring, but Jamie is more than just a strong defender. She also is one of the most skilled attacking and possession players I have ever coaches. This allows her to play as a dominant defender or dominate a game from the midfield. She truly is a game-changing player.”

Natalie Starrenburg Hampshire

A junior midfielder, Starrenburg finished the season with 9 goals and 12 assists, earning a unanimous all-Big Northern Conference East Division honor. “Natalie was the catalyst of our offense,” said Hampshire coach Pat O’Brien. “She possesses a powerful and accurate shot that leads to many quality scoring chances for our team. Natalie is an integral part of our set pieces.”

Maddie Stoneman Burlington Central

Stoneman racked up 15 goals and 8 assists in 2011. This junior forward was an all-Big Northern Conference East Division selection and also was an all-sectional pick and earned all-tournament honors at Kaneland earlier in the year. “Maddie once again was the leading goal-scorer for the team,” said Central coach Mike Gecan. “I am very excited to see what Maddie has to offer going into her senior year.”

Savannah Uveges South Elgin

A freshman midfielder-forward, Uveges had 19 goals to go with 3 assists. She was especially spot-on-net in the second half of matches where she tallied 12 goals. An all-Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division choice and an all-sectional pick, Uveges also was honored as the team MVP and the team’s offensive MVP. “Savannah has come in as a freshman and had outstanding results,” said South Elgin coach Tiffany Disher. “She has set several school records such as most goals in a game (5), most goals in a season (19) and quickest goal scored at the beginning of a match. She has been recognized in the area with top-level achievement and will continue to develop as an amazing player.”

Aimee Wronski Huntley

The honorary captain of the Daily Herald’s All-Area girls’ soccer team for a second year in a row, the Illinois state-bound Wronski scored an area-high 35 goals to go with 8 assists. Wronski, an all-Fox Valley Conference Valley Division, all-sectional and all-state selection, leaves Huntley with 102 career goals and 37 career assists. “Aimee got better at playing the way she faced,” said Huntley coach Kris Grabner. “She also improved in her movement off the ball. She became a much better player in the air.” Wronski also was an all-Pepsi Showdown tournament selection after scoring 5 goals in as many Showdown games. She was regarded by many as the best forward in the prestigious tournament.
