Buffalo Grove High teachers get creamed for animals

Students in Buffalo Grove High School’s three Freshman Advisories sponsored two fundraisers and a raffle this spring, in support of Kay’s Animal Shelter in Arlington Heights.

On April 21, participating Buffalo Grove High School staff members agreed to allow students to duct-tape them to a wall in the cafeteria for $1 per length of tape.

Many of these same “good sports” submitted to additional abuse on May 5, when they sat in the school courtyard wearing trash bag bibs, taking whipped cream pies in the face for $1 a throw.

Students and staff members stood in line, waiting to “cream” their favorite teachers, support personnel and administrators, all in the name of charity.

Participants included teachers Steve Kolodziej, Kurt Kutska, Julie Deka, Stephanie Ramos, Kevin Schrammel, Christine Lindbloom, Kevin Trow, Tom Sullivan, Tim Kosiek, Nancy Conlin, Kate Konkel, Binh Huynh, Paige Fullhart, Jeff Grybash, and Matt Priban, head librarian Glenn Gotrik, Dean of Students Rick Carlson, associate principal Rob Hartwig, P.E. division head Courtney White, instructional assistant Jeff Siegal, and lead custodian Jay Benz.

Combining proceeds from the two activities with an ongoing raffle held between the two events, $516 was raised to purchase items on the wish list for Kay’s Animal Shelter.

Thirty-two students from the freshman advisories of teachers Kate Konkel, Paige Fullhart and Kim Kolodziej bought and delivered food, cages, toys, bowls, paper products and other requested items to the facility on May 18. The freshman advisers couldn’t be more pleased with the interest generated and the outcome of the fundraisers.

“We went out on a limb, tried something new, and with great support from colleagues and students from our advisories, were way more successful than we could have imagined,” Konkel said. “We were able to raise money for a great cause and all it took was some duct tape, whipped cream pies, great people, and a sense of humor!”
