Reception, poetry to open new NWCC exhibit

An artists’ reception and poetry reading will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the gallery space at Arlington Green Executive Centre, 2101 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.

Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.

Pottery by Joan Brinkworth; watercolor paintings by Betty Morley of Arlington Heights; and prints and mixed media works by Min Ja Lah of Schaumburg — all artists in the Council’s Corporate Gallery Program — are on display.

It is the council’s belief that exposure to these art works will expand the observer’s appreciation of art and artists. The council hopes these exhibits will make art a part of the everyday life of the viewer.

Through the years the Northwest Cultural Council has recognized and promoted poetry as one of the very important arts. The council encourages all people, but especially young people, to read, understand and learn to write poetry.

An important part of NWCC’s commitment to poetry is the Second Saturday Poetry Workshops. It has been offering these sessions every month for the past 12 years.

During the reception, Chicago-area published poets Charlotte DiGregorio, Maureen Flannery, Judy Valente, Charles Reynard, Arlyn Miller, and Deborah Rosen will read from their works. Maureen and Deborah are two of the many accomplished, published poets who lead the workshops.

Look for Arlyn Miller’s work which will appear in the poetry section in the next issue of SPOTLIGHTS.

The exhibition can be viewed from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Admission is always free.
