Garage sale fans will find a touch of heaven in Winfield

Bargain-hunters can save some money, and possibly gas, this weekend by scoping out the deals at 115 different garage sales in Winfield.

It’ll be a little touch of heaven for those seeking a deal on everything from children’s clothing to grandma’s old china.

Rich Loechl, co-chairman of the committee overseeing the inaugural villagewide garage sale, said there are far more homeowners participating than organizers originally expected.

The net result is that budget-conscious visitors will have plenty of places to choose from between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. today and Saturday without having to travel very far.

“One of the residents came up with the idea and thought it might be a good civic event for our village; we’re really tiny,” Loechl said.

All of the sellers will be listed on GarageSales.com and Craig’s List so you can check out what items are available and where the sales are located before leaving home.

Sponsoring Winfield restaurants are offering garage sale weekend specials and discounts as well.

Visitors can stop at the garage sale headquarters, next to Antiques of Winfield, at 27W461 Beecher in downtown, to pick up a map, a list of sellers and restaurant coupons.
