Ross Dress for Less to open in Algonquin, Elgin

There have been many guesses floating around on what's going into the former Circuit City building along Randall Road in Algonquin Commons.

Construction work on the former electronic retailer's building has increased lately, with part of the main lane at Algonquin Commons shut down, fueling even more speculation.

Many of you have emailed me with your own ideas or wishes of what it will be.

Turns out it will be a new store to the Chicago area — Ross Dress for Less, officials recently announced.

The store is expected to open Oct. 8, said Beth Hicks, director of marketing for Inland Commercial Property, which manages the Algonquin Commons mall.

On that same day, Ross Dress for Less will be introducing itself to the Chicago area at 12 different locations.

There also will be another spot on Randall, at Randall and Thornwood in South Elgin.

Other Ross Dress for Less spots opening simultaneously that day include Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Niles, Bloomingdale, Matteson, Orland Park, Skokie, Naperville, Crystal Lake and Rockford.

Ross Dress for Less already has more than 1,000 locations throughout the country in 27 different states.

The Algonquin store will be 34,188-square-feet of space, selling off-price designer and brand name fashions for men, women and children, Hicks said.

All of the stores are billed as offering 20 percent to 60 percent off department and specialty store regular prices on clothes, footwear, accessories and home goods.

New business: The new Primrose School of South Elgin opened this summer at 450 Briargate Drive, just off Randall Road.It is the first Primrose School in the Chicago area.The school offers child care and early childhood education.The South Elgin location has eight private classrooms, all with state-of-the-art technology, owners Laura and Kurt Daniel said.There also are two other Primrose schools under construction in the Chicago area.There will be another along the Randall Road corridor in Algonquin later this year at 2300 County Line Road, just east of Randall.Another is under construction in Naperville, at the northwest corner of Route 59 and 95th Street.#8220;Bacchus Greets the Arts#8221;: Gibby's Wine Den along Randall Road in Geneva will host its seventh annual Bacchus Greets the Arts event, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19.The event will feature 10 to 15 local artists, who each will have two or three different original pieces on display at the end-of-summer event.Along with the artwork, there also will, of course, be wine tastings that night at Gibby's.For information call (630) 208-6424.#376; Amy Williams' column covers all the news of business along the Randall Road corridor from Batavia to Crystal Lake.
