Playwrights invited to pen a premiere with Fermilab scientists

After the success of the first-ever Collider New Play Festival in July, Fox Valley Repertory is currently seeking new play submissions for the second annual Collider New Play Festival to take place during the St. Charles Summer Theater Fest at the Pheasant Run Resort Mainstage and throughout the city of St. Charles on July 6-22.

“We're thrilled to continue offering this opportunity for playwrights after the success of launching this program last year. Our Collider 2012: New Play Project will offer the rare opportunity for three playwrights to work one-on-one with scientists from neighboring Fermilab to create a world premiere for our community,” says Artistic Director John Gawlik. “New plays – especially ones being created, work-shopped and premiered right on our stage – are vital to the continued growth of live theater in our community.”

Inaugural Collider Playwright Kris Peterson of Saginaw, Mich. had this to say about his Collider experience: “I've been fortune enough to be part of numerous development processes, but none quite like the opportunity Collider provided me with. The support I received on every level - the scientists, marketing, actors, and the director was creative, engaging and always helpful. Plays are always shaped by the development process. But my play honestly wouldn't have ever existed without it. For that I'll be forever grateful.”

About Collider 2012

Collider: New Play Project partners area scientists and Fox Valley Repertory to develop new works that help us better understand the universe and who we are, while illuminating and celebrating the worlds of art, science and technology.

Fox Valley Repertory is uniquely located within the Illinois Science and Technology Corridor. Illinois is the home of the internationally renowned Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia and is a Midwestern and national leader in science and technology research and development.

The plays will tap into both playwright and scientists' curiosity and desire for knowledge and human understanding. Playwrights will consult with volunteer scientists and engineers. This collaboration will allow both artist and scientist to share their personal outlook and creativity while ushering in a new play. The playwright will be invited to have their script work-shopped with professional directors and actors during the Fox Valley Rep's St. Charles Summer Theater Fest from July 6-31, 2012. Public, world premiere staged readings will be held on Saturdays at 1 p.m.

Potential Collider playwrights need to submit a synopsis/outline of a play they propose to write based on our Collider mission (To help us better understand the universe and who we are, while illuminating and celebrating the worlds of art, science and technology).

Submissions for Collider 2012: New Play Project must be made online. Specific guidelines, requirements, submission forms, and more information can be found at www.foxvalleyrep.org/Collider. Questions can be sent to collider@foxvalleyrep.org No phone calls or mailed submissions please.
