Meet the artists at Water Street Studios

How is jewelry made? What sort of techniques do painters and sculptors use to bring their work to life?

Find out on Saturday, Nov. 12, when visitors to to Water Street Studios will have a chance to talk to artists and view their work.

From 6 to 10 p.m., the Batavia studio will hold its monthly Second Saturday at the Studio. This event gives the public an opportunity to wander the Water Street Studios complex and to talk to artists in their studios while the artists demonstrate their creative techniques.

Featured artists will include jeweler Lisa Dienst-Thomas, painter Greta Bell and sculptor Rita Grendze.

Grendze won Best of Show during the 2011 Water Street summer show and was awarded a solo show in Water Street Studios' second floor gallery. Recently, she has been working on her solo show exhibition entitled “Well-read.” In conjunction with her work, she will collect children's books to donate to charitable organizations.

Along with the Second Saturdays event, there will be a special joint show by artists John Spiteri and Carey Overstreet.

John Spiteri works in stoneware and porcelain. His unique colors come from firing his work in gas reduction, soda, and electric atmospheres. Carey Overstreet paints in oils, acrylics and collage. His subject matter runs the gamut from abstract, figurative, landscape or collage.
