Northwest Indiana man sentenced to 65 years in wife’s death

CROWN POINT, Ind. — A northwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to the maximum 65 years in prison for the beating death of his wife of 41 years.

A Lake County judge admonished 63-year-old Douglas Thompson at length during Thursday’s sentencing hearing, saying he showed no remorse for killing Beverly Thompson.

A jury convicted Thompson last month of murder for killing his wife at their Dyer home in April 2010. Prosecutors said she had been hit in the back of the head at least 10 times.

The Times of Munster reports that Beverly Thompson’s brother pleaded to hear Thompson say he was sorry and explain why he committed such a horrible act. Thompson didn’t give a statement during the hearing.
