Santos, Geneva win one at the buzzer

Senior Ashley Santos took a full court inbounds pass from Kelly Gordon and hit a jump shot at the buzzer to lift Geneva to a dramatic 64-62 victory over Springfield Southeast Saturday at the Illinois Basketball Services Girls Prep Classic in Springfield.

The No. 3 Vikings (8-0) earned the win despite a 6-for-20 showing from the free throw line that enabled Southeast (6-3) to erase an 8-point deficit with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Sarah Pawlak headed a balanced Geneva scoring attack with 17 points while Santos hit a pair of 3-pointers in a 15-point performance.

Rachel Hinchman finished with 12 points for the Vikings, followed by Morgan Seberger (8 points), Michaela Loebel (7 points) and Gordon (5 points).

Southeast junior Justice Collins racked up a game-high 24 points. She completed a 3-point play with 2.2 seconds remaining to even the contest at 62-62 after Santos missed a pair of free throws on the other end.
