Q: Describe your business. What do you do?
A: Domestic Transport Solutions Inc. (DTS) is a third party logistics provider. DTS was started by a team of entrepreneurs with a strong knowledge of the field, decades of experience, and a passion for the transportation industry. DTS is an organization that works together to achieve our mission by consistently meeting the highest standards of quality. Cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction are of the utmost importance in our organization. DTS’ main goal is to optimize our client’s freight spend while providing a total transportation solution.
Q: What made you start your business?
A: We started our business for two main reasons:
Ÿ To fulfill our dreams. Growing up, the three of us always said that we would own and run a business before it became too late and just look back at what we could have done. Instead of falling down that hole we decided to put a plan on paper, do our research, and just move forward and go with our dreams. It was the best decision we have made!
Ÿ The other reason was to work with customers and provide a high level of customer service. We were all working jobs in which the customer service was good but could have been better. We set out to make every customer feel as if they are our only customer and save them money in the meantime, which is always good for our customers.
Q: What has been the most difficult obstacle in running or starting a small business?
A: The most difficult obstacle in running our business has been cash flow. That overall is our No. 1 obstacle.
Q: What do you enjoy most about operating your business?
A: We enjoy working with our customers everyday. We have developed close relationships with our customers and we love when we can go above and beyond to fulfill their needs and expectations. It is a great feeling for us and a very important motto at DTS. Overall experience is our number one priority and we strive to be the best we can be.
Q: Is this what you pictured yourself doing when you were young? When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: Growing up, we all wanted to be baseball players until reality set in. Once that happened we started thinking what we could do together to give our families a great life. After a lot of work and research DTS was started. We are continually building a stronger and bigger clientele. We will continue to educate ourselves and our employees of this industry. Knowledge is power!
Q: What keeps you up at night?
A: Cash flow and trying to figure out new ways to keep our customers and employees happy. We are constantly trying different strategies to exceed our customers and employees expectations.
Q: If you could give one tip to a rookie business owner, what would it be?
A: It is not going to be easy, but having the will and determination to reach the goal you created for yourself will keep you moving forward. Continuously set goals and keep reaching to achieve these goals everyday. Never give up!
