Three honored by IHSBCA

Gary Wolf, Harvey Foster and Frank Mariani will be recognized Saturday by the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association for their contributions to the sport.

Wolf and Foster will be inducted into the IHSBCA Hall of Fame and Mariani will receive the Distinguished Service Award at a banquet at 6:30 p.m. at The Westin Hotel at Yorktown Center in Lombard.

Wolf retired in August after a 23-year tenure as head coach at Leyden. Wolf had a 451-346 record, won four regional and three West Suburban Gold titles and had a fourth-place summer tournament finish.

Foster was 157-92 with a Mid-Suburban North and regional title as Hersey’s head coach from 1987-94. Foster was also an assistant coach at St. Viator and was instrumental in starting the annual June showcase for high school seniors-to-be at Stevenson.

Mariani has been a long-time assistant baseball and football coach at Palatine. He also had a successful tenure as Palatine’s American Legion coach and led Palatine’s new Connie Mack team last summer.
