Yogi's Pizza in Lake Zurich closes suddenly

Yogi's Pizza, a popular place for Lake Zurich youth sports teams to gather after a baseball or soccer game, has closed suddenly.

The owner of the pizzeria, Alexandra Karabetsos, went into village hall earlier this week to inform officials there of the closing and to surrender the restaurant's liquor license, village officials said Thursday.

A sign posted on the door of the restaurant at 830 S. Rand Road said it was temporarily closed. The phone lines have been disconnected.

The owner did not want to discuss details of the closing, but did say, “There is no business. People just don't go out to eat as much.”

Prior to the current ownership, John Bourlokas ran the business for about seven years.

Yogi's menu included salads, burgers and gyros.

“It was a popular place for kids and families. We're sorry to lose it,” said Lake Zurich Village President Suzanne Branding. “It was a place where families could bring their kids and always feel welcome. It was a wonderful place for Lake Zurich.”

Branding's executive assistant, Sue Ragsdale, added that Yogi's had good food. “I know that a lot of sports groups met there,” she said.
