Watch for birds from balcony at Glacial Park
Submitted by McHenry County Conservation District
If you have an interest in bird-watching but are unable to join long bird hikes, McHenry County Conservation District has the perfect solution — birding by balcony.
Join the group at the Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood, where you can look out the second-floor windows or off the balcony at vast acres of wetlands for “Waterfowl” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9.
Or peek directly into the branches of the nearby oak trees at “In the Oaks” from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 19.
Binoculars and field guides are available for those who do not have their own. Dress for the weather if you plan on going outside on the balcony.
Registration and a fee are required. The program is free for county residents and $2 for nonresidents by Thursday, April 4, for “Waterfowl” or Tuesday, May 14, for “In the Oaks.”
The outings are for those 14 years and older. Register online, by mail or walk-in at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake or call (815) 479-5779.
