Something to celebrate

Often when I open the Sunday Daily Herald I see, but do not open, the section “Celebrate.” I was once — a very long time ago — a groom, but probably not expecting to know the engaged or wedded couples, I simply haven’t checked it out. And, frankly, being cynical at times, I would not expect to see a picture of a lesbian or gay couple.

Perhaps because of the ongoing sexual orientation debate in our denomination, or with the current national political news on gay marriage, I decided to look inside the May 13 “Celebration.” Perhaps you have had pictures of same-sex couples before, but I was unaware. This time, to my amazement and delight, the parents of two young women announced the engagement of their daughters. I thank the parents for their support and love for their daughters. I thank the Tabatha and Tonya for publicly declaring their love. And I thank the Daily Herald for using the picture and telling the story.
