7 new administrators assigned to U-46

Elgin Area School District U-46 has named seven people to administrative positions for the 2012-2013 school year, from principals to an assistant superintendent.

Barbara Johnson will replace Carmen Rodriguez as the assistant superintendent for elementary education. Rodriguez is retiring after serving many years in U-46 and three years of this position. Johnson has served as principal at two Baltimore schools and a Washington, D.C., school. She earned her doctorate in education administration and policy studies from George Washington University.

“We were pleased to have so many experienced applicants coming to U-46,” Chief of Staff Tony Sanders said. Johnson will oversee all 40 elementary schools in the district starting in July. “It is a very big position,” Sanders said.

Others named to new posts include:

Ÿ Laura Hill will serve as the director of assessments and accountability, replacing Ed DeYoung, who served in the position as a contractual consultant. Hill served as the district coordinator of testing for Joliet Township High Schools and since 2006 she has worked for U-46 as a coordinator of assessment.

Ÿ Leatrice Satterwhite will replace Marge Rehberg as the assistant director for special education starting in July. Rehberg also is retiring this year. Satterwhite worked in Maryland as the coordinating supervisor of support programs since 2007. Her career began as a special-education teacher in Sycamore. She also served as a principal in Chicago Public Schools.

Ÿ Jacquelyn Johnson will become the new coordinator for secondary language arts and social studies for kindergarten through 12th grade. This position is new to the district. She is a reading and English teacher at Abbott Middle School. She began there in 1997.

Ÿ Joanna Sharp will serve as the next principal at Creekside Elementary School in Elgin. She will replace Randy Verticchio. Previously, she has worked as the director of instructional services in Rochelle, the curriculum facilitator at Meridian District 223 south of Rockford and a high school teacher and assistant principal in Rockford public schools.

Ÿ Lisa Bergbreiter was selected as the new principal at the Independence Center for Early Learning in Bartlett. She will replace Christine Dennison, who is retiring. Bergbreiter has served as a resource teacher for learning and behavioral disorders in McHenry District 15. Currently, she is a special education supervisor in Belvidere District 100.

Ÿ Jason Franzke will become the principal at Willard Elementary School in South Elgin, replacing Craig Bowers who resigned. He has been the director of academic initiatives for Chicago Public Schools an assistant principal at a Chicago elementary school. Currently, he is the assistant principal at Pershing West Middle School in Chicago.
