Soldier Field to host college hockey doubleheader
Soldier Field will host a pair of college hockey rivals for the first Hockey City Classic on Sunday, Feb. 17, it was announced Wednesday.
Wisconsin and Minnesota will face off in a battle of Big Ten powers, followed by a second outdoor game between Notre Dame and Miami of Ohio. Game times have yet to be announced.
Tickets for the event will go on sale to the public on Oct. 1. Season ticket holders for the four teams and the Bears will have an opportunity to purchase tickets before that date, and those tickets will be offered through the respective teams.
The event will be preceeded by two weeks of events at the rink at Soldier Field, including two days of free public ice skating and youth, high school and adult hockey games.
The four programs participating have a combined 36 Frozen Four appearances and 11 national titles between them, with each team reaching the Frozen Four once in the last three years. Of the four, only Wisconsin has played an outdoor game in the modern era.
