The Village of Round Lake Beach retired K-9 Gunnar from the police department Monday night at village hall. Gunnar has served the village for the last 7 1/2 years, working with handler Officer Ken Rydz. Rydz now takes ownership of Gunnar.

Despite the cool, cloudy weather, first-grader Jonathan Hanrahan dons a big pair of sunglasses as he and other school children from Pleasant Lane Elementary School in Lombard take part in the American Diabetes Association School Walk for Diabetes Friday. Its the fifth year the school has done the walk and the money the children raise helps with research and community awareness. Its a wonderful community service project for the students and they learn about type I and type II diabetes, which we know is a huge problem these days. said P.E. teacher Rose Grumstrup.
