Bellwood men charged in gas station assault
A pair of Bellwood men face aggravated battery charges after authorities say they broke a 62-year-old man's jaw in an attack outside a Leyden Township gas station, Cook County's Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Monday.
Gregory Miller, 19, was arrested Friday in Franklin Park and Danny Striblin, 18, was arrested Saturday in Melrose Park on felony charges stemming from the Aug. 7 altercation.
According to police, the victim got into a verbal altercation with two men about 5:15 p.m. that day after he moved a bicycle blocking the entrance of a gas station store in the 2400 block of Mannheim Road.
After the victim left the store, police said, the two men punched him in the face and the body before fleeing the scene on bicycles.
Both suspects are charged with aggravated battery to a person over 60 years of age, a Class 3 felony punishable by a maximum two to five years in prison.
They appeared in court Sunday when a judge set bond at $50,000 for each. Their next court date is Tuesday at the Cook County courthouse in Maywood.
