Lakes takes Prairie title
Lakes’ fourth win over Antioch this season was the biggest one.
The Eagles celebrated senior night by defeating visiting Antioch 26-24, 25-22 to capture the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division championship.
“The girls worked hard to win for the seniors for their senior night,” Lakes coach Katie Cheek said.
Senior Haley Halberg posted a .750 hitting average with 6 kills, while senior libero Aly Bathery had 14 digs. Sophomore Megan Behrendt totaled 8 kills and 11 digs, and sophomore Maddie Demo had 6 kills and 21 assists. Junior Lisa Buehler contributed 13 digs.
“The girls played as a team and set a goal to win the Prairie Division,” Cheek said after her Eagles (19-4) completed a 6-0 run through the NSC Prairie.
Lakes battled back in the second set from a 10-point deficit.
Antioch finished 5-1 in the division.
Lakes will host Lake Zurich in the NSC championship match on Wednesday night.
Stevenson d. Lake Forest: Khaila Donaldson and Grace Duffy had 6 and 5 kills, respectively, for the Patriots in their 25-21, 25-16 win.
Stevenson (23-6, 4-2) also received 2 aces and 8 digs from Donaldson.
Wauconda d. North Chicago: The Bulldogs won their NSC Prairie finale 25-9, 25-8.
Lauren Nee served 7 aces for Wauconda (17-11, 3-3), while Susan Karhoff slammed 7 kills.
Grant d. Vernon Hills: Beka Couch had 7 kills for the Bulldogs in the NSC Prairie finale, while Anna Panasenko and Kyle Mueller added 5 kills apiece.
Katie Brettman had 6 kills for Vernon Hills (6-23, 3-3).
