Animal shelter promotes ‘Back in Black’ campaign
Heartland Animal Shelter is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society and the Petco Foundation to promote “Back in Black,” a national campaign dedicated to increasing awareness and adoptions of black and mostly black cats and dogs.
Heartland’s adoption fees for these pets are reduced by 25 percent through the end of November.
They’re gorgeous, they’re charming, and they’re as devoted as any other pet, but pets in black often wait longer for homes than their lighter colored pals.
Mistique arrived at Heartland with her kittens who were quickly adopted. Nearly two years later, this gentle, affectionate, black cat continues to wait for her forever home.
Little dogs are usually adopted quickly, but Gibson is the exception to that rule. A Heartland resident for almost a year, he is a young, playful Chihuahua mix who just happens to be black.
Heartland has many other wonderful black dogs and cats who are ready for adoption.
Adoption fees include spay/neuter procedure, shots and microchip. Adoption counselors are available to help match prospective adopters with their pets.
Heartland Animal Shelter is at 2975 Milwaukee Ave., Northbrook. Potential adopters are welcome during open hours from 4-7 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and noon-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Pets can be viewed online at heartlandanimalshelter.net.
Heartland Animal Shelter is a no-kill humane organization dedicated to finding homeless animals their forever homes while educating the public on spaying and neutering their pets in order to decrease pet over population. Because Heartland is a 501(c) 3 organization, all donations are tax deductible.
