Grant wins twice at Marengo
Ryan Noda scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, as Grant’s boys basketball team made it two wins on one day Friday, capturing a 67-59 decision over Woodstock in a semifinal of the E.C. Nichols tournament at Marengo.
Mike Burns added 17 points and Steve Dunning chipped in 10 for Grant (7-3, 3-1 tourney), which will play for the championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Grant had started the day by beating Harvard 72-57 in the morning, as Noda scored 19 points. Dunning and Burns netted 15 and 14, respectively. Rayvon Jones contributed 8 points.
Wauconda 63, Westminster Christian 50: At Marengo, Dion Head’s 24 points, 5 steals, 3 assists and 3 rebounds led the Bulldogs (10-3, 3-1 tournament), who bounced back after having its six-game winning streak snapped Monday against Marengo.
Kevin Malisheski added a season-high 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals for Wauconda. Joey Lovelle had 8 points and 4 steals, and Ricky Sidlowski contributed 6 points and 11 boards.
Lake Zurich 52, Hersey 44: At Pekin, the Bears made it a 2-for-2 day, as Mike Travlos scored 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
The Bears (8-5, 2-1) also received 10 points apiece from Brad Kruse and Will McClaughry. Jack O’Neill (8 points) hit a pair of 3-pointers.
Lake Zurich 59, Plainfield East 57: At Pekin, the Bears won their first of two games on the day, as four players scored in double figures.
Mike Travlos scored 14 points and dished out 4 assists, while Brad Kruse had 13 points and 6 assists. Jeff Zahery (three 3-pointers) and Will McClaughery chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively. Lake Zurich also got 8 points from Jack O’Neill.
Curie 69, Warren 41: At Pontiac, James Betori scored 12 points and Eric Gillespie had 11 for the Blue Devils in their loss to the top seed.
Adrian Deere scored 9 points for Warren (5-6, 1-1).
Thornton Fractional North 29, Grayslake Central 26: At Normal West, the Rams lost for the second time in one day, failing to score in double figures in any quarter.
Charlie Anderson and Alex Lennartz scored 8 points apiece for Grayslake Central (5-6, 0-3), which lost its fourth in a row.
Thornwood 48, Grayslake Central 35: At Normal West, the Rams dropped their first game of the day in the State Farm Holiday Classic.
Sam Ruhlmann led Grayslake Central with 9 points, including a 3-pointer.
Cary-Grove 49, Lakes 34: At Jacobs, Tramone Hudson scored 11 points for the Eagles (4-8, 2-2).
