Barr, Carmel roll past Niles North

Michael Barr scored a season-high 20 points, and Carmel Catholic’s boys basketball team started 2014 with a 62-45 nonconference win over Niles North on Saturday night.

Carmel (11-3), which hadn’t played since losing to Zion-Benton in the championship game of Jacobs’ Hinkle Holiday Classic, was tied with Niles North 21-21 at halftime. The Corsairs then outscored the Vikings 20-12 in the third quarter and 21-12 in the fourth.

C.J. Duff added 13 points for Carmel.

Grayslake North 71, Crystal Lake Central 50: On Friday night, sophomore guard Bobby Krebs scored a season-high 22 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Knights opened the new year with a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division road win.

Dom DiProva and Aidan Einloth added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Grayslake North (3-7, 1-1), which won for the second time in a row. Cavanagh Murphy scored 19 points (four 3s) for Crystal Lake Central (0-15, 0-2).
