Rock Valley stops Harper
It’s tough to beat a ranked conference foe on the road, but that was the task facing the Harper College men’s basketball team as the Hawks traveled to No. 5 Rock Valley College on Wednesday night.
It turns out it was too tough a task, as Harper fell 89-66.
Ben Grygiel was flawless early for the Golden Eagles, going 5-for-5 from the 3-point line in giving Rock Valley a 50-28 halftime lead.
Harper’s hot shooting from Saturday’s win over Joliet didn’t carry over to this contest as the Hawks shot 34.4 percent from the field.
Bradley Reibel’s 17 points led Harper. Freshman Michael Boyd had one of his best games, adding 16 points.
The loss stings because it drops Harper out of what had been a four-way tie atop the North Central Community College Conference standings. The Hawks (14-10, 6-3) are now a game behind Rock Valley, Triton and Joliet in the league race.
Next up for Harper is a Saturday contest against Wright at the Sports and Wellness Center in Palatine.
