If yes, please explain: NoQuestions Answers Why are you running for this office? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is that?I am running for office because I believe that local government can have the greatest impact on peoples' lives. As such, it is critical that it make good decisions on behalf of future generations, like protecting and maintaining the county's land and open spaces. What differentiates you most from your opponents in the race? The difference between my opponent and me is that as a younger candidate, I can bring more energy and new ideas to the Forest Preserve District. And as a Democrat, I will bring more balance to the District and county government, which has been dominated by one party for decades. How far do you think the county should carry its quest to consolidate local units of government?I believe there are ways that the county could consolidate local government. For example, eliminating some townships in the metropolitan area that have few unincorporated sections. But I think the FPD should remain independent so that its funds for things like landfill cleanup remain separate. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us about important initiatives you've led. If you are not an incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.As a Commissioner I would reach out to the citizens of the district to find out what issues they consider important. I would be a strong independent voice; compromising when appropriate but still voting on behalf of the voters that I represent. What should the forest preserve district be doing to address stormwater and flooding issues throughout the county? The FPD should make flood control and stormwater drainage its top priority. With the increasing frequency and severity of major weather events, the district must take the lead in identifying and purchasing floodplains to help prevent or lessen the damage to homes and businesses in areas likely to be affected by storms and catastrophic floods.Should the forest preserve be using district resources to save historic buildings? Why or why not?I do not believe the FPD should use its financial resources to save historic buildings. However, I am not opposed to lending the District's architects to groups that want suggestions on improvements to buildings that they pay for. To save a building, concerned citizens could raise money through establishing nonprofit groups or use crowd-sourced funding. What's your position when it comes to the issue of the forest preserve district acquiring more land?I support the FPD buying more land when it makes sense to do so. Some examples would be if there is a vital floodplain to save from being developed, a high quality piece of undisturbed land, or good quality land that is adjacent to existing District property. Finally, is there anything we haven't asked about that you feel we should know?Candidate did not respond.
