Campos, WW South triumphant

Wheaton Warrenville South came into Saturday's game at Gately Stadium in Chicago looking for a win after losing its first two games of the season.

The Tigers got their first win, defeating Morgan Park 30-6. Michael Campos scored 3 touchdowns and rushed for 67 yards on 13 carries to lead the Tigers.

"We needed a win, period," said Tigers coach Ron Muhitch. "Morgan Park has played three extremely difficult football teams in games to start their season. We're very fortunate to come off this field scoring any points. They played very well. Our defense played very well. We'll try to get our mistakes cleaned up."

The Tigers (1-2) caught the Mustangs in the end zone for a safety 18 seconds into the game to take a 2-0 lead. That put the Mustangs on their heels.

"It definitely messed with our momentum," said Mustangs coach Terry Atkins. "We had to get over that. But that's football."

Campos ran for the first two of his three touchdowns on runs of 36 and 2 yards in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 16-0 lead going into the half.

"Coach has been talking about it all week having everyone step up," said the Tigers' Jonathan Johnson, who ran for 85 yards in 14 carries. "I made sure I stepped up this week."

The Mustangs (1-2) hung in there and gave the Tigers a game. Darius Burse scored in the fourth quarter to cut the Tigers' lead to 14-6.

"The score didn't indicate what type of game it was," Atkins said. "We gave up a few late touchdowns to offset the score, but I'm really pleased with the fact that our guys came out and played a real good game of football."

The Tigers' Keishawn Watson caught a pass from quarterback Josh Prueter and scampered 70 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

"They were playing single coverage on Keishawn and he's pretty good with 1-on-1," Prueter said. "They had their linebacker moved up. He made a sweet move and went 70 yards. We had to get something going. We had too many three-and-outs. He's a big playmaker, especially when we need it."

Campos scored on a 6-yard run to seal the game.

"We have a bunch of injuries, we were scrambling to find players to play," Prueter said. "Obviously, we know we have to correct things going into the DVC next week. That was a good team, they are very athletic. We knew that coming into this game."
