Republicans appear to sweep DuPage Forest Preserve commission
The DuPage County Forest Preserve Commission's lone Democrat lasted only two years in office before being ousted Tuesday night.
Unofficial vote totals show District 6 Commissioner Shannon Burns, a West Chicago Democrat, being unseated by local business owner Al Murphy, also of West Chicago, in a rematch from 2012.
With all precincts counted, Murphy had 56 percent of the vote to Burns' 44 percent. Burns edged Murphy by a similar margin in November 2012.
Murphy was unavailable to comment Tuesday night, but he had campaigned on a platform of reducing property taxes when some district bonds come due in 2017.
Republican Marsha Murphy of Addison, a 12-year incumbent in District 1, appeared to hold off a challenge by Democrat Evan Wolfe. With all precincts reporting Tuesday, unofficial totals showed Murphy with 64 percent to Wolfe's 36 percent.
Republican Joe Cantore marched uncontested into the district's presidency while Linda Painter took the District 3 seat unopposed.
