Construction work trips alarm at Hoffman Estates hospital, prompts lockdown
An accidental tripping of an alarm led to a lockdown this morning at The Alexian Brothers Hospital Behavioral Center, 1650 Moon Lake Blvd., in Hoffman Estates, [olice and hospital officials said.
Lt. Darin Felgenhauer said at 9:29 a.m. the facility's automated alarm system send a message to police indicating there was an active shooter in the building. Felgenhauer said it appears that the alarm was activated by accident.
The all-clear was given at 11:05 a.m., according to a post by hospital officials on the Alexian Brothers Health System Facebook page.
According to the post, the alarm was tripped by construction work.
"Following protocol, the hospital went on lockdown and we enacted a phased evacuation to a secure offsite location to assure patient and associate safety," the Facebook message read.
