Former Peoria mayor sells downtown hotel for $8.35 million
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - A former Peoria mayor has sold the Mark Twain Hotel to a California-based land trust for $8.35 million.
The (Peoria) Journal Star (http://bit.ly/1Exc6W3 ) reports Lowell "Bud" Grieves has owned the downtown Peoria hotel for 25 years. He says its name won't change and it will continue to operate as an independent hotel.
The 109-room hotel was first a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge before it became a Quality Inn. It sat idle for a number of years before Grieves bought it.
In October 1990, the facility reopened as the Mark Twain Best Western Hotel after renovations. It later became a boutique hotel.
Grieves served as Peoria mayor from 1997 to 2001.
