Muncie man gets 6 years after shot during store hold up

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A 48-year-old Muncie man has been sentenced to six years in prison after he was shot last May while trying to hold up a liquor store.

The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1ERwvFN ) Jerome Williams's public defender Mark McKinney said during Thursday's hearing that his client was "extremely lucky to be alive." Williams was shot in the pelvic region while struggling with the store clerk over a handgun.

Williams told a Delaware County judge that he apologizes to his family and to the victim. The judge accepted a plea bargain of a nine-year sentence with three years suspended. Williams will be on probation for three years after he is released from prison.
