Stuttgart still bottom in Bundesliga after 0-0 with Hertha

STUTTGART, Germany (AP) - Relegation candidate Hertha Berlin ground out a scoreless draw at Stuttgart that left the home side mired at the bottom in its worst ever Bundesliga campaign on Friday.

Stuttgart coach Huub Stevens, who saved the side from relegation last season, has been coming under increasing pressure. Stuttgart had just 20 points from 24 games, and its goal difference of minus 17 was four worse than at the same stage last year.

"We want to keep the same coaches in charge," Stuttgart captain Christian Gentner said in support of Stevens, who took over for his second stint after predecessor Armin Veh stepped down in November.

The home side started brightly but needed goalkeeper Sven Ulreich to produce a top save to deny Valentin Stocker in the 26th minute.

There was little going forward from either side until Stuttgart defender Daniel Schwaab forced a good save from Thomas Kraft in the 71st, 10 minutes before Nico Schulz missed the best chance of the game after Salomon Kalou set him up at the other end.

Kraft went off with suspected concussion after a late collision.

Schulz was sent off with his second yellow card for a tactical foul in the seventh minute of injury time.

Stuttgart was four points from safety ahead of the rest of the weekend's games. Hertha was just two above the relegation zone.
