Leyden Credit Union Donates $10k to Unity in Community Foundation

Leyden Credit Union has made a $10,000 donation to The Unity in Community Foundation, a growing charitable organization that provides service to individuals and families in Leyden Township in their time of need. The donation took place on March 20, 2015 and will provide the foundation funds to carry out their charitable mission and expand their new Community Wishes Program which began in November 2014.

Leyden Credit Union's reason to donate to the Unity in Community Foundation was simple: "They are all about helping those in need in the Leyden Township community," said Leyden Credit Union President and CEO David Lukas. Leyden Credit Union believes that they have a similar mission.

Leyden Credit Union is a community-based financial institution with membership available to anyone who lives, works, or worships in Leyden Township as well as six other neighboring townships (Addison, Elk Grove, Lyons, Maine, Proviso, and York). With a mission statement of "Working To Improve Our Members' Financial Well-Being," Leyden Credit Union has been helping its members since it was formed in the basement of East Leyden in 1955. Whether it is by offering low rate car loans, refinancing loans from other financial institutions, offering free checking, or offering loans for unexpected emergencies, Leyden Credit Union has been, and still is, an organization that prides itself on helping the community and saving them money.

Because of this, Leyden Credit Union felt that the Unity In Community Foundation is the perfect recipient for a donation. Both organizations' reason for existence is the same: to help those in the community. In recent years, some of the contributions that the Unity in Community Foundation have provided include: purchasing a van with a wheel chair lift for a young lady who has an incurable disease; purchasing a service dog for a young lady with epilepsy to help her gain admission to college; and helping a family secure a trike bike for a young man who has Cerebral Palsy. In addition, the foundation also awards scholarships each year.

With the additional funding from Leyden Credit Union, the Unity in Community Foundation will be able to serve more people in need in Leyden Township.

Leyden Credit Union, a full service, member-owned financial institution, is located at 2701 N. 25th Avenue in Franklin Park. For more information on Leyden Credit Union, please visit www.LeydenCU.org or call 847.455.8440.
