Beckham's clutch hit lifts Sox over Reds

The White Sox still aren't where they want to be, but they're moving in the right direction.

Winning a series is a goal for every major-league team, and the Sox (12-16) beat the Reds 4-3 Sunday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field while taking of three in the interleague matchup.

Friday night's game was rained out and the White Sox and Cincinnati split a doubleheader Saturday.

The White Sox were leading 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning before closer David Robertson blew his first save try of the season.

Zack Cozart's 2-run double off Robertson tied the game.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Avisail Garcia and Alexei Ramirez singled off Reds closer Aroldis Chapman and moved up a base on a wild pitch.

Gordon Beckham singled on a 100-mph fastball to score Garcia.

John Danks keyed Sunday's win with his best start of the year.

The 30-year-old lefty pitched a season-high 7 innings and allowed 1 run on 6 hits to get the win and lower his ERA from 6.20 to 5.12.

The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Emilio Bonifacio's run-scoring single.

In the fourth, Devin Mesoraco tripled to score Brandon Phillips and tie the score.

Alexei Ramirez's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning scored Jose Abreu to decide the outcome.
