Sugar Grove reading program plans fun kickoff

The Sugar Grove Public Library, 125 S. Municipal Drive, will kick off the Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 6, with a day packed with activities and fun for both children and adults.

Kids can join a Super Hero Training Camp from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., they can make a super hero mask and cape along with other crafts.

A live horse demonstration with four horses and their riders will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Join a photo-op with Ozzie the Cougar from the Kane County Cougars from 2 to 3 p.m. There will be a live band from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Take a moment during the schedule to register for the Summer Reading Program, which is open for all ages, including infants and adults. Read and win prizes.

The kickoff event is free and no registration is required. To register for the Summer Reading program, use your Sugar Grove Public Library card.

On Wednesday, June 10, from 1 to 2 p.m., make a Super Hero wearable using a sewing machine. This is for kids going into third to sixth grade. Instructor and seamstress Ellen from Ellen Violet Designs will lead the program. Sewing machines will be available, but you may bring your own if you wish.

This is a free program, but space is limited. Register with your Sugar Grove Public Library Card using the calendar on the library website.

On Saturday, June 20 at 2:30 p.m., Karen Schmidt, accomplished bilingual storyteller and teacher, will delight library patrons and friends with folk tales about heroes from around the world. Her energetic and engaging renditions will keep both children and adults wanting more. The stories are geared to youth, age 5 to adult. This is a free event and no prior registration is required.
