Reward for consistency is irresponsible

The article on the $22,000 pay increase for the city manager of Des Plaines highlights the weakness of that city council to represent the interest of its citizens.

One alderman actually said, "It's a small price to pay for the consistency received for the last few years in Des Plaines."

Really? The council is rewarding consistency, not exceptional performance, with outsized pay increases.

Unfortunately the same weak management is evident in other town councils and school boards around the state.

Many citizens are struggling to just keep up with inflation and the Des Plaines City Council is paying big bucks for consistency.

This is irresponsible leadership and it has to stop.
