Naperville furniture shop remains closed after fire
A weekend fire that damaged a Naperville furniture shop has been ruled accidental, authorities said Monday.
Furnish 123 at 2639 Aurora Ave., Suite 103, does not yet have an expected reopening date after the fire Saturday afternoon, employees said.
Naperville firefighters responded to the store about 1:05 p.m. Saturday and found the fire in a back storage room, where they said it caused "extensive damage" but no reported injuries.
To put out the flames in the large store, firefighters said they had to call for additional personnel and equipment. Extinguishing the blaze took about 45 minutes.
Bureau Chief George Hyland said fire investigators were able to conclude their probe relatively quickly. He said they determined the fire was sparked by overheated electrical equipment.
The store is working with its insurance company and Hyland said it also has to have a fire alarm test and a sprinkler system test before reopening. Nearby businesses, including Gordmans furniture next-door, were not damaged and remain open, Hyland said.
